At Insight Psychological Assessments, we specialise in trauma-informed, relational assessments that prioritise clarity, compassion and practical support. We help care-experienced children and those facing complex challenges to feel understood. All of our assessments are NICE compliant.
We operate across the UK working in partnership with local authorities, fostering agencies, schools, and residential settings. Whilst we welcome referrals for any young person, our particular expertise lies with children in, or on the edge of care, and those living with developmental trauma and/or neurodivergence.
To ensure every young person receives the right support at the right time, we use a tailored model of assessment that separates screening, diagnosis, and post-diagnostic support into clear, manageable stages. We begin with an Initial Psychological Screening for every child. This ensures we understand presenting needs before recommending any further assessments. Screening prevents unnecessary costs by guiding you towards the most appropriate next step.
Initial Psychological Screening
Review of referral and existing assessments or reports. Conversations with carers, school and social worker to understand presenting needs. Psychometric screening (e.g. for ADHD, ASD, mental health) followed by a written report with recommendations. This report can be used to inform EHCPs, support plans, NHS referrals and therapeutic interventions.
ADHD Diagnostic Assessment
Following initial screening, if ADHD is indicated, we offer a full assessment. This includes a detailed developmental history, psychometric testing, QbCheck, diagnostic interview and comprehensive report.
Although we do not prescribe medication ourselves, we can provide access to our ADHD medication pathway via a fully accredited Consultant Psychiatrist. Additional costs apply for this service.
Autism Diagnostic Assessment
Includes an observational assessment (ADOS-2), a developmental history interview (ADI-R) with carers or parents and social worker, a multidisciplinary team meeting, and a detailed report.
Full Neurodevelopmental Assessment
Recommended when needs may be complex or overlapping. This combines screening for ADHD, autism and trauma, with further assessments as needed (such as cognitive testing ). Findings are summarised in a detailed report, followed by a review session.
Post-Diagnosis Support
We provide six virtual sessions across one year to help embed assessment recommendations into everyday care. These sessions bring together carers and key professionals in a reflective, collaborative space to review progress, problem-solve challenges and adapt strategies as a child’s needs develop.
Our approach keeps recommendations at the centre of care, supports carers in building confidence and consistency, and ensures that support remains responsive and effective over time.
£900 for six sessions over 12 months
Cognitive Assessment
A cognitive assessment provides a detailed profile of a child’s learning strengths and challenges. Using standardised tools such as the WISC-V, we assess areas including memory, attention, processing speed and problem-solving. The results help carers, educators and professionals tailor support to the child’s individual needs. Each assessment includes a comprehensive report with clear recommendations.
Trauma and Mental Health Assessment
This assessment explores the emotional impact of trauma and identifies current mental health needs. It considers the child’s history, presentation and resilience factors, providing a clear understanding of how past experiences may affect their wellbeing and behaviour. Recommendations focus on therapeutic and practical strategies to strengthen recovery and support. A full report with recommendations is provided to guide ongoing care.
Forensic Risk Assessment
Forensic risk assessments are used when there are concerns about harmful or risky behaviours. This may include aggression, sexually inappropriate behaviour or vulnerability to exploitation. Using structured professional judgement tools such as SAVRY and AIM3, we assess areas of vulnerability and strength, and evaluate potential risks in context. Each assessment includes a comprehensive report with tailored recommendations, providing a clear, evidence-based plan for risk management and support across care, education and community settings.
Referrals start with a conversation about the child or young person’s needs and a completed referral form.
We will guide you to the most appropriate pathway.
